Complete voice
Separate timing, sound, tone, shape, and output into a complete subtractive voice.
VCV Essentials · Free patch pack
Start with three interactive browser labs—patch the signal path, hear the result, and connect each function to real hardware. Continue into the downloadable VCV Rack experiments when you are ready.
Before you open a patch
Install VCV Rack 2 and add the free VCV Fundamental plugin to your VCV Library.
Open a lab, select your driver and device in Audio-2, and begin with device volume low.
Follow red for audio, blue for continuous CV, and orange for gates or clock.
Separate timing, sound, tone, shape, and output into a complete subtractive voice.
Attenuate an LFO before filter cutoff and hear why utilities make modulation musical.
Hear the main pulse against an eight-step accent. Follow timing independently from pitch and audio.
Narrow random voltage, quantize it, and turn chance into a deliberate musical boundary.
Raise delay feedback toward a sustained loop, then use tone and level to keep the accumulating signal under control.
Practice rule
Listen before and after. Name the cable’s job. If the result surprises you, trace the signal from output back to source.
